5. 3D Scanning

3D Scanning:

1-Information About 3D Scanning

3D scanning is the process of convert or analysing a real-world object or environment to collect data on its shape and possibly its appearance. This data can then be used to construct digital 3D models. A 3D scanner can be based on many different technologies, each with its own limitations, advantages and costs, so we can say that we have a different scanning technologies to do different kind of application in industry. And they used extensively by the entertainment industry in the production of movies and video games, including virtual reality. I take it from this website https://venturebeat.com/2019/01/20/how-ea-quickly-captures-3d-scans-of-athletes-faces-for-its-sports-games/

2- The first 3D Scanning Machine

The first 3D scanning machine that used it in industry it is created or invented in the 1980s used contact probes. And it works by touched an object thousands of times until the device had enough data points to create a digital image or 3D model. These scans take a long time to finish the process.

3-Type of 3D Scanning technologies

these technologies divides into two types: contact and non-contact. Non-contact solutions can be further divided into two main categories, active and passive. Every categories have a variety of technologies.

1-Non-contact active: Active scanners emit some kind of radiation or light and detect its reflection or radiation passing through object in order to probe an object or environment. Possible types of emissions used include light, ultrasound or x-ray.

I take it from this website https://total3dprinting.org/best-3d-scanner/

2-Contact Contact 3D scanners probe the subject through physical touch. Like CMM (coordinate measuring machine). It is used mostly in manufacturing and the disadvantage of this type is that it requires contact with the object being scanned. And that may damage the object. another disadvantage is that this type required more time or it is slow compared to the other scanning methods.

4-Qlone app

Due to the development of the technologies and the industry the needed of the 3D scanning machine increases in the industry. So to keep up with theses development and needs the community or industry start develop these technology. until Now days we can use our phones to do 3D scanning. You can find many app that make 3D scanning using the camera of the phone. First we use Qlone app you can download it from play store on your phone. you need first this type of paper if you want to scan. Than you put the shape above them and use your phone or camera and revolve around the shape until the app tell you finish or the scanning complete. We try to do it and these some picture about our work. You should revolve around the shape until the blue things on the phone or you can see it from the above pictures removed.

3D Scanning Using Machine

We has in the lab a 3D scanning machine you can sit in front of it on chair

and rotate to make the machine scan or take photo from different side and view. And that how the machine basically works. Let us start from the beginning how you can use this machine and do some scanning using it. First, you go to the computer that connected with the machine and open program called Skanect and this window will appears to you. Than click on prepare and new than put the setting that you can see it from the picture above to scan your body. And if you scan object or room you can change your choice from the Scene option after that click start. Second, this page will appears and to make the machine start scan you can change the delay time that you need it to start rotate or revolve using the chair and you have maximum 30s. Than there is a limit time and it is the time that you shall rotate or revolve in it and I put it until 40s. Third, click to the option or red square inside it a circle up on the left to start. Forth, if there are some places that the machine can not scan it you will see gap. And to fill this gap you go to process option and choose fill Holes than go to strategy option and choose closed hull after that click to run and the program will fill all holes that is appear on you scanning. Finally, to get your scanning from the program you choose share option than click on Export Model after that click or choose the format to you file from Format option. I choose STL format because I want to printing my scanning on the printing machine.
After that, I take this file and put it in the computer that connected with the 3D printing machine. And do the same things that I did before and decomanted on my website( http://fablabbh.fabcloud.io/asterisk/2021/students/abdullah.alammach/assignments/week04/)

Finally I got my shape from the 3D printing machine.
