4. 3D scanning and printing

This week I worked on defining my final project idea and started to getting used to the documentation process.

Qlone 3D scanner

” Qlone is free to download and scan but exporting the 3D models, AR view with Animations and scanning in 4K resolution (iOS) are premium features that require an upgrade to premium. … Scan the object from two different angles, and it will be auto merged for complete 3D results.

I downloaded the app from app store and followed the steps that have been given when I opened the app [figures show below] I scanned a hook from ikea store made from soft rubber; no sharp edges to bump against.

Here is the steps of using Qlone app:

Solidwork with 3d printer

I used the solidwork software to do my final project which is a prosthetic arm including three fingers, so i decided to design the palm part and the fingers then print it out by 3d printer.

one finger contains three parts (top,middle & bottom), i designed each part in separate file then i assembled them by assembly feature in Solidwork.

HERE IS the assembly part (the red color is the screw that i will use which is from Suleve company 3mm )

Fusion360 with 3d printer

I wanna do a flower vase to keep my favorite flower with simple vase design.

so, i Used a voronoi generator feature on the top of the vase to have random sketch

3d printing time!

There are a limitation for the printer which are; Bed size, must be heated before printing, filling type, Nozzle size (small better),filament type and finishing product by sanding/ coating.

3D printer is a slow operation and option to get the product, but it’s good solution to have a unavailable items.

Steps to print

1- Save the design file as stl. 2- open it in Ultimaker cura software 3- Place the design in a suitable place 4- set the features/ setting 5- Slice the design 6- preview it to ensure everything is fine and the generated support is appropriate 7- insert the SD card into your computer 8- save the file as g-code in the card 9- insert it in the 3d printer 10- set the setting in the printer 11- place the filament in the right position 12- start printing by clicking on (print from TF), then (file name) 13- automatically the printer will be heated to the right temperature (depends on the filament type of material)

The most important setting must be known - Quality; the height of the layer - Infill; the shape of the pattern and the density of it - Material; each material have a specific printing tempriture & build plate temprture - Speed; is the printing speed ( the slower the better) - Cooling; the cooling operation done by a fan wich already made inside the printer and the speed of the fan is adjustable - Support; some of the desings need support as it have a wide angle that the filament may be destroied because there is no base layer to build on - Build plate adhesion; is a type of the build plate adhesion

This is the setting that i made for the fingers part by using PLA filament:

NOTE: The blue side is the support part.

Next video shows some of the steps and the results of one part of the finger;

and about the flower vase;
