WHAT IS CNC MACHINE?¶

“computer numerical control.” These machines represent a manufacturing process used to control a wide range of complex tasks. CNC machining is used in many different industries. It’s most prevalent in metal and plastic production.

HOW DOES IT WORK?¶

Once the programming is put into the machine, a CNC machine will operate on its own. The speed and position of machinery and involved tools are run through software. CNC machines operate like robots. There are two main types of CNC machining systems: milling and turning. Each is better suited for manufacturing different geometries, due to its unique characteristics.

We were presented a lecture with a short brief description about the basics of the CNC machine and the working tools behind it . So to test it out, we went ahead as a group to test out different speeds, feeds and toolpaths

INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT¶

Now that I was given a clear example on the machine’s working, I decided to go ahead with my individual assignment.

I decided to make a Mubkhar using Autocad. So firstly, I created a prototype using laser cutting and acrylic to see if everything fits perfectly. you can refer to Week 3 to see all the steps.

GENERATING G-CODE ON V CARVE PRO¶

What is G-code?

G-code is a programming language for CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, it stands for Geometric Code ,this is the language used to tell a machine what to do or how to do a thing . The Gcode commands instruct the machine where to move, how fast to move and what path to follow.

What is V carve pro?

VCarve Pro gives you the power to produce complex 2D patterns with profile, pocket, drill and inlay toolpaths, plus gives you the ability to create designs with v-carving textures as well as import and machine unlimited Vectric 3D clipart or single model files.
