2. Computer Aided design¶

For this assignment, I designed two 2D designs and two 3D designs using different software.

2D designs¶

cuttel is an online 2D cad software that helps you make 2D designs and is easy to use for beginners. you can access it through this link

I decided to use two logarithmic spirals shapes to create a 2D Nautilus shell.

I started with the first spiral and draw some lines to represent to shell opening:

I then added a different spiral to add more detail:

overall, cuttel was very easy and I made the design in less that 7 minutes. this software is more suitable for laser cutting

This software is an online software which you can access through this link and it is in fact more suitable for designing stickers.

I decided to create a weird 2D design. I started with selecting a dodecahedron star:

then, I added a regular star at its center and painted both of them in silver paint that is radially distributed:

overall, the software was very easy and I made my design in 2 minutes using it.

For the first design, I decided to use TinkerCAD which is a relatively easy online 3D CAD software that you can access from this link

I decided to make two toruses that pass through one another.

I started by selecting two toruses:

I increased their thicknesses equally and then made them perpendicular to one another before moving one of them through the other:

overall, TinkerCAD is very easy to use especially for beginners.

blender is a great software form advanced 3D modelling and creating animations. It can be downloaded from here.

I decided to make a shinning metallic sphere. I started with a cube and added a subdivision modifier:

then I increased the level view and got an almost smooth sphere:

I then selected shade smooth:

by going to texture paint, I choose a pink metallic paint:

And finally, this was the result:

Overall, blender is complicated but you can create a lot of unique things using it.
