8. Moulding and casting

This week is the less intresting week for me, it’s about to design then make a mold for that design the you can use it any time to do that design by filling in it any material that it dry after a while of time. Also this week been all week all days doing another step

Individual assignment

we tasked to design a 3D design so we will do the following steps.

Designing Steps

First we had to design a 3D design that can be cutted by the cnc milling machine, the design will be cutted from up and the tool will drill on it, so it wont be able to do something like caves.

I choosed to design a cat, so i did a search in google to see a cat drawing to take an idea about the cat shape and curves like that, and i saw This

then i opend fusion360 and started to design the cat by using the curved and strat lines, and i come out with not a cat but it should be, it’s looks like i know this is a new creature.

Cutting Steps

So first we need to set the setting so i write my design dimensions.

Then i setted some of the design specification

After that i setted the x,y,z of the tool(tool position).

And this is the result that the software showed me

Finally, i setted the speed and power of the tool then it starts to cut.

This is the piece which will be drilling in to be the mould.

Moulding Steps

This step we have to choose a material to fill the design, after that this material will dry and we will have a mold. So i choosed silicon, and we need to mix the same amount of A and B. A is a silicon and B is a material will lead them to dry after one day.

And you need to take same amount of A&B so i took 15 grams of each that it will cover my design.

Finally, filling and wait for one day to let the silicon dry.

Final step Casting

This stage i choosed to cast my mold with gypsum material, i puted a little og gypsum in cup and mixed with a little of water then i cast my mold.

And after the gypsum dries

So finally this is the final result
