4. Embedded programming

This week I worked on programing a microcontroller. I worked on Arduino IDE.

Using Arduino

what is Arduino?

“Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. Arduino boards are able to read inputs - light on a sensor, a finger on a button, or a Twitter message - and turn it into an output - activating a motor, turning on an LED, publishing something online. You can tell your board what to do by sending a set of instructions to the microcontroller on the board. To do so you use the Arduino programming language (based on Wiring), and the Arduino Software (IDE), based on Processing.”

  • Arduino MKR wifi 1010: The MKR WiFi 1010 is a miniature sized modulecontaining a SAMD21G18A Processor, the NinaW102 Module, a crypto chip (the ATECC508), and a2MByte SPI Flash.

  • First start with downloading the app for Arduino from their official website.

  • looking for examples:

  • It required downloading the board to the Arduino.

/*
  Blink

  Turns an LED on for one second, then off for one second, repeatedly.

  Most Arduinos have an on-board LED you can control. On the UNO, MEGA and ZERO
  it is attached to digital pin 13, on MKR1000 on pin 6. LED_BUILTIN is set to
  the correct LED pin independent of which board is used.
  If you want to know what pin the on-board LED is connected to on your Arduino
  model, check the Technical Specs of your board at:

  This example code is in the public domain.

*/

// the setup function runs once when you press reset or power the board
void setup() {
  // initialize digital pin LED_BUILTIN as an output.
  pinMode(LED_BUILTIN, OUTPUT);
}

// the loop function runs over and over again forever
void loop() {
  digitalWrite(LED_BUILTIN, HIGH); // turn the LED on (HIGH is the voltage level)
  delay(1000);                       // wait for a second
  digitalWrite(LED_BUILTIN, LOW); // turn the LED off by making the voltage LOW
  delay(1000);                       // wait for a second
}

Task2: Random Delay.

  • I tried to set random function using the code below
void setup() {
  // initialize digital pin LED_BUILTIN as an output.
  pinMode(LED_BUILTIN, OUTPUT);
}

// the loop function runs over and over again forever
void loop() {
int A=random(500,5000);
Serial.println(A);
int B=random(500,5000);

for(int j=0; j<10; j++){
  digitalWrite(LED_BUILTIN,HIGH);
  delay(A);
   digitalWrite(LED_BUILTIN,LOW);
  delay(B);
}
}

Task3: Morse code.

  • First, I wrote my name in morse code by using this website to make the LED light on/off.

  • 0.5 second light on for dot
  • 1.5 second light on for dash
  • 0.5 second light off for space between letters
  • 2.5 light off for the end of the word
  • I wrote my code in this way :
// the setup function runs once when you press reset or power the board
void setup() {
  // initialize digital pin LED_BUILTIN as an output.
  pinMode(LED_BUILTIN, OUTPUT);
}

// the loop function runs over and over again forever
void loop() {

  digitalWrite(LED_BUILTIN, HIGH); // turn the LED on (HIGH is the voltage level)
  delay(1500);                       // wait for a second
  digitalWrite(LED_BUILTIN, LOW); // turn the LED off by making the voltage LOW
  delay(500);                       // wait for a second

    digitalWrite(LED_BUILTIN, HIGH); // turn the LED on (HIGH is the voltage level)
  delay(500);                       // wait for a second

Tinkercad.

  • Trying another programming environment.
  • I used Tinkercad which is another software to code microcontrollers.

  • Open tinkercad –> new –> circuit.

  • Basic –> arduino.

Morse code.
