Computer Controlled Cutting¶

Computer-controlled cutting refers to the process of using computer-controlled machines, such as laser cutters or vinyl cutter, to precisely cut or shape materials according to digital designs or instructions. It combines computer technology with cutting equipment to automate and streamline the cutting process.

Laser cutters are computer-controlled cutting machines that use a focused laser beam to cut or engrave materials with high precision. They offer a versatile and efficient method of cutting a wide range of materials, including wood, acrylic, plastic, fabric, leather, paper, and metal.

CO2¶

We use CO2 laser cutters machine and we use Fusion 360 to 2D design then we sent the design to PC connect to CO2 laser cutter the we cut the design by CO2 and we use Cartoon and thickness is 2 mm.

Group Assignment¶

For group assignment every group has to find one or tow of the setting focus, power, speed, rate, kerf, and joint clearance. The setting change base to the material we us in CO2 machine. Our group was assignment to find the focus and we use ramp test and find the focus is 0.8 cm. For more details about group assignment you can visit Ali Naser website.

Other Groups did tests that found the optimal values for wood which are: -

speed: 90 mm/s - Sayed Ali Group
Power: 80 Watts - Sayed Ali Group
spacing: 1.65mm - Zainab Group

Individual Assignment¶

I make the 2D design in Fusion 360 and make sure to measurement the spec to join the pieces to each other is 1.65 mm

And to make all spec same measurement I use change parameters to make the design press fit.

Final Result of Laser Cutting¶

After I finished the 2D design I sent the design to PC connect to CO2 machine. We cut 2 of pieces to check before we cut more.

So we check and every thing is good so we cut more.

After the cutting we find more then one designs so I use them.
