Week 8 Moulding and casting¶
This week I worked on Moulding and casting. Moulding and casting are essential techniques in manufacturing and art, allowing for the reproduction of objects with precision and detail. Moulding involves creating a hollow form, or mould, that captures the desired shape of an object. This mould can be made from various materials, including silicone, plaster, or metal, depending on the complexity and final use of the product.
Casting is the process of pouring a liquid material, such as metal, plastic, or resin, into the mould. Once the material solidifies, it takes on the shape of the mould, creating a replica of the original object. These techniques are widely used in various industries, including automotive, aerospace, and sculpture, enabling the efficient production of multiple copies while maintaining high levels of quality and detail. Together, moulding and casting offer versatility and creativity in both functional and artistic applications.
Designing¶
I start searching an image that I can work on it, After that I statr edite the image form illustrator and edite the type of an image to open it in Fusion 360 and to do that:
I convert image into tracing object for I can edite it and scaling it.
I export it as SVG to open it in fusion
In fusion I draw a circle by using sketch tools then I extrude it to be in 15 mm
I open my design then I put my design on the circle. After that I cut the design by using extrude tool.
I draw two circle the first circle for fill the silicone rubber and the second circle to make it a keychain.
Setup Machine¶
We start to setup the machine by uploading the design in the application of machine. The machine that we used name monoFab.
Then I put two design to cut it in machine
I start select the size and type of cut the design on the machine
Before starting the machine we must fix the orginal point of x/y and the z hight.
Start Cutting¶
We start cutting our design
Our design after machine finish cut.
Start Casting¶
To start casting we must have many tools. We must have Measuring cup and small scale too. Also the sizes A and B are combined in equal proportions by weight. For instance, if the total weight is 100, we allocate 50 to A and 50 to B.
I pour the mixture into the mold after finishing mixing.
Then wait for three hours to see the mold ready for use.
I start used eboxy resin to see my final result.
I mixed the epoxy resin that I make sure for A 10 and B 6 then I poured the mixture into the mold after finishing mixing.
This is our final result.
