2. Computer Aided design¶
WEEK 2¶
In this week we are going to learn about 2D and 3D design, starting with 2D design.
2D design:¶
CUTTLE.XYZ¶
CUTTLE.XYZ is a simple desiging tool, starting with 2D design and following the steps provided bellow you will have the basic knowledge to design a key chain.
2D design number 1:¶
create an account
After creating an account we are going to start a NEW PROJECT , we will see in the our project with the name commponent A , then we can choose and drag a shape:
we can choose the metric unit from units & settings
Here we changed the scale of the cyrcle we chose from the scale option we see on the right, and lso added a text that we draged from the menu , then we centered the text inside the cyrle by clicking the following symbol :
After adjusting the text the way we want (we can change angle/ size/ coloring/ design) , we will need another cyrcle to create a whole for the chain, simply by dragging it from the shapes menu, the we will select both shapes and wild them using the folowing option and add another cyrcle for the whole through the frame:

after finishing we just save the commponent that we edited in the following form:
2D design number 2:¶
For a new design
we only need to click on new component instead of a new project, because the number of free projects allowd is limited to 5, instead you can crete a new component :
Then we are going to repeat the same steps but choose a text, writting in arabic is a little bit diffrent from writting in english, some fonts are not available or can not be displayed: We can change the the font type to available version
we can control , space , position , cut , wind , width
and you can connect the parts to create a key midal with your name in arabic.
Using fusion 360 :
Fusion 360 is a designing tool in 2D and 3D, it allow you to fully create any product , measure, shape , 3D products perfectlly
Other 2D designing tool :¶
Its the website free to use open source vecrts, it is an easy free tool online we will make a 2D simple design with.
a very simple tool, but have some limitations, but we can agree its suitable for simple design.

designing a nickles frame .
starting a new project
choose a shape you like , you can adjust size, position , coloring etc.....
you can lock shapes in position so you can add other shapes, because you can not wind shapes automatically you will need to make deference in coloring
after adjusting the shapes to the nickles

my recommendations for 2D
i prefer using cuttle for more detailed and easier design tools for larger and much complex, but in simple projects using simple shapes i would recommend using vectr because its a drag and place tool.
3D design¶
It is a more complex way that allow you to fully design and customize a product and control the material and the dimensions , add wholes, adjustments, curves.
3D design tool number 1:¶
TINKERCAD is a free open source website that allow you to make 3D designs
After creating an account we will create a project
We can select a shape in 3D and control the size We can control the height , width , length , angle and more, in this example im creating a phone protection cover. After creating a shape that can cover the mobile by adding few more millimeters to add a protection layer, i will create a hole based on the phone dimensions by selecting both items and joining them. After removing the inner part, we create a hole for the phone charge. to create the hole after selecting the objects:
Adding a camera space the same way: we can also can carve a name or a shape by simply choosing its material as a hole
we repeat the same steps but we should not make the hole length cut through the cover (if we want it to be a simple carving) and repeat the same step by selecting both objects then group
this is the final product
to save the file we click here and choose .stl form
To show the work in HTML we will use sketchfab after uploading our file we can add a description then embed to git the HTML code so we can add it to our site

3D design tool number 2:¶
Fusion 360 is a 3D designing Software , with 1 year free trail for students, it is an advanced designing tool with more options that allow you to control every think to create the exact product in your computer .
To create a sketch
we can click of a sheet to look at the space from a side We can hold this block to move or ue the mouse To add an object
we can control the size
After we are done we can press enter so the shape we designed is fixed. we can add small holes
we can pull in/ out the object using “extrude” by clicking on the object then pressing E or clicking the tool extrude
if we cant to remove a part of the box we click on create a sketch
we can choose the shape we want After we add the shape in 2D we can press E and pull the shape inside to create an empty space
After creating the empty space, we will repeat the same steps to create a shelf by using extrude after drawing a small rectangle and creating a space in the frame.
THEN to make the shelf space by clicking thin extrude and moving to the other side.
to design the shelf we click again on extrude and pull/ enter data of the shelf size t we can do some simple designing by pressing fillet we can change material by selecting our product then clicking write click and clicking on materials
we drag the material block we chose to the shape our final product we can save by clicking of files then choosing .stl form

MY OPINION¶
i prefer using fusion because of the tools and the options you have, you can choose material type, adjusting the shape more easily , fusion help you with the options it have, but tinderCAD is also very useful for small 3D projects, but my recommendation will be “for advanced design” is to use fusion 360.
