3D Scanning and Printing B

Group assignment requirements

The group assignment for this week is the following:
- Test the design rules for your 3D printer(s)
- Document your work on the group work page and reflect on your individual page what you learned about characteristics of your printer(s)

3D printing machine specs

A picture of your 3D printing machine

Describe/list the available features and key settings of your 3D printer.

[some of those are only applicable to FDM, Add or delete as needed]
Machine name:
Max speed:
Max print volume (LxWxH):
Finest possible layer height:
Filament diameter:
Max nozzle temperature:
Heated bed max temp:
Machine type (FDM or SLA):

Safety

[Describe the safety measures around using your 3D printing machine.]

Design rule testing

You can use this 3D design test or find another one that tests similar rules.

design test

This test tests Overhang, warping, size accuracy, bridge test, fine details and general accuracy of the machine. The test was created by [name of creator/Thingiverse username] and found on link.

Slicing

The design was sliced using [name] slicer software. [brief about the software used]

The settings used were the following:

Material: [PLA or other material used]
Rafts: Yes
Support: No
Resolution: [layer height. use 0.1 or finer]
Infill: [30% or whatever the test calls for]

screenshot of the slicing design preview

The estimated time to finish printing was [time estimate from the slicer software], estimated amount of material needed was [material amount in meter or grams]

Printing process

Describe and show the process of setting up the machine. Example: Adding the filament, adding blue tape/glue to the bed if any, sending the design to the machine to print, calibrating the machine, etc.

Overhang

zoomed in picture of overhang section in the printed design

Describe how the overhang result is looking. At what angle did the filament start sagging/deforming? Reflect on how that can impact your designs/when to use support

Bridge Test

zoomed in picture of Bridge Test section in the printed design

Describe how the bridge test result is looking. At what distance did the filament start sagging/deforming? Reflect on how that can impact your designs/when to use support

Fine details and accuracy

zoomed in picture of section in the printed design

Measure the printed details using a caliper for an accurate measurement. Compare between the measured value vs the design measurement. Reflect on how that can impact the designs you make in the future

Result

Reflect on the results found, the printing process and your experience with this printer. Mention any other imperfections noticed.
