Molding and Casting¶
Group assignment requirements¶
The group assignment for this week is the following:
- Review the safety data sheets for each of your molding and casting materials
- Make and compare test casts with each of them
- Compare printing vs milling molds
Material 1: Graffiti Resin Multi Use¶

Safety Instruction:¶
• Keep out of children’s reach.
• Store product in a dry place, preferably in the sealed original container, at temperatures between 20c & 25c.
• Do not swallow. If you swallowed the resin, call a doctor immediately.
• A face mask should be used for pregnant women while using product.
• Wear protective gloves when you use the product.
• In case the product comes in contact with eyes: rinse cautiously with water for several minutes.
• Caution: contact with contents may cause an allergic skin reaction.
Process steps:¶

| Property | Details |
|---|---|
| Mix Ratio (if applicable) | A (resin):B (hardener) = 10:6 |
| Work Time | About 40 minutes |
| Cure Time | 8 to 12 hours |
| Demolding Time | Preferably remove from mold after 24 hours |
| Cured Material State | Transforms from liquid state into solid form |

Process Steps:¶
Step 01: Preparation of Materials:

We started by gathering all the necessary materials:
-
A cup filled with water (to measure the ratio needed for hardener and resin).
-
Two empty cups (for mixing and weighing the hardener and resin).
-
Spoons for mixing.
-
The mold to be used (bookmark mold in this case).
-
A scale for accurate measurement.
Step 02:Preparing the Mold:
-
We placed the mold on the scale and zeroed it.
-
We chose a bookmark mold for this process.
Step 03:Measuring the Mold’s Volume:
- We poured water into the mold, filling the desired spaces.

- Then, we measured the weight of the water on the scale 44.4 ml.

- Afterward, we removed the water from the mold and dry it thoroughly with tissue paper to prepare it for resin usage.
Step 04:Measuring the Resin:
- We placed the first empty cup on the scale, zeroed it, and poured 34.4 ml of resin into the cup.

Step 05:Measuring the Hardener:
We placed the second empty cup on the scale, zeroed it, and poured 34.4 ml of hardener into the cup.

Step 06:Mixing the Resin and Hardener:
-
We poured the resin (from the first cup) into the hardener (in the second cup).
-
mixed it thoroughly for one minute.

- We Repeated the process by pouring the mixture back into the first cup and mixing again for one minute to ensure consistency.
Step 07:Coloring the Mixture:
-
We divided the mixed resin and hardener into two cups.
-
Then, we added colored powder (pink for the first batch) to one of the cups, little by little, mixing until the desired color is achieved.

Step 08:Pouring into the Mold:
- We poured the clear resin mixture and the colored resin mixture into the mold as desired.

-
For the remaining clear resin, we added purple powder, mixed it thoroughly, and poured it into the mold.
-
Finally, we added gold foil to the poured resin for decorative purposes.

Step 09:Curing and Demolding:
- We allowed the resin to cure and dry for 24 hours.

- Once fully cured, we removed the resin items from the mold.
