2. Computer Aided design¶
Computer-aided design (CAD) refers to the use of computer software and hardware to assist in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design. CAD systems are widely used in various industries, including engineering, architecture, manufacturing, and product design.
This week Tasks:¶
- Model (raster, vector, 2D, 3D, render, animate, simulate, …) a possible final project, compress your images and videos, and post it on your class page
2D design softwares¶
2D design is the process of creating visual compositions using only two-dimensional elements - length and width. It involves selecting and arranging visual components while adhering to the fundamental principles of art and design. Designers work with 2D design software to compose and manipulate these two-dimensional elements to produce a wide range of visual outputs, such as illustrations, logos, icons, and graphics.
Cuttle:¶
Cuttle is a web application that enables users to quickly generate personalized SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) cut files. It allows users to create custom designs and patterns for different cutting projects, including vinyl cutting, paper crafting, and more.

Inkscape:¶
Inkscape is a free, open-source vector graphics editor used to create and edit scalable vector graphics (SVG) files. It provides advanced tools for path editing, text handling, and exporting to various formats.

One year ago I needed to turn a picture into layers to cut the vinyl using my cricut machine, and lucky me, after searching I found it ready to use.
I started exploring the software and once I knew that I can turn any image into svg layers I started looking how to to do it.
I found a youtube tutorial about how to do it and I follow the steps with different image.
You can watch the tutorial here
Now I have a Black&White version of the original image.
Now I have 3 copies ( Original - Single Scan - Multicolor)
I kept the Original Copy for a refference.
Each part is shown and we can see the eyes, hands, and socks.
Selecting the copy > Tapping Ungroup.
Now we have each layer ready to be cut

My personal review:¶
I enjoyed both of the softwares and I will work on both. Each one has a different amazing feature. The Tracing in the inkskape is amazing, but it is a little bit complicated. However, Cuttle is very simple and easy to use especially with the ready-to-use shapes. It also has amazing feature for importing as svg for cricut design space.
3D design softwares¶
3D design is the process of creating 3D digital models and assets using software. It involves modeling shapes, applying textures, setting up lighting, and rendering the final 3D scene. 3D design has applications in engineering, architecture, visual effects, and more. Popular 3D software includes Blender, AutoCAD, and SketchUp.
Fusion 360¶
Fusion 360 is a cloud-based 3D CAD/CAM/CAE software by Autodesk. It offers 3D modeling, simulation, and manufacturing tools for product design and engineering. Fusion 360 is used across industries and has both free and paid subscription plans.
I started exploring the software and since it was my first time in dealing with 3d design, I watched a tuotorial and followed it.

Tinkercad¶
Tinkercad is a free, web-based 3D design and modeling tool created by Autodesk. It has an intuitive drag-and-drop interface, supports 3D printing, and provides educational resources for learning 3D modeling. Users can create 3D designs in the browser and export them in common file formats.

My personal review:¶
Since it is my first time for 3D designs, I found it complicated at the beginning. Tinker cad is very simple for those who wants to start 3D designing. It offers templates and shapes. However, Fusion is for professional use as it provides more features like the fillet. I enjoyed the Extrude tool too.
