7. Molding & Casting

This week we worked on Molding & Casting and learned how to use different materials.

We had the choice to create whatever we wanted, using our preferred materials.

I chose to make a convinient cute star shaped key chain.

I placed my design in the Software called SRP Player and adjusted it in the mold to get it ready for engraving.

After the mold was ready and engraved, I chose Resin as my material.

I weighed the Resin to make sure it was in the ratio range, which is 10:6, and started mixing it. I mixed it in 1 cup, then transformed the mixture into the other cup to make sure it was all mixed perfectly.

Then, I poured the Resin mix into the mold and let it sit for 48 hours for it to fully dry and become hard enough before I continued the next step.

When it was fully dry, I took it out and mixed the Resin with some pink acrylic color with a touch of gold sparkles and let it sit again for 48 hours.

Note: Make sure to use only a tiny dot of color as it may ruin the mixture’s texture and will be non-usable if you used a lot of color.

For the final step, after everything was completely dry, I took it out from the mold and cut out all unnecessary extra edges and made sure the hole was open for the metal chain to go through.

It turned out really nice!
