3. Computer controlled cutting

This week I worked on defining my final project idea and started to getting used to the documentation process.

Laser Cutting Machine

In this week we worked on our own design to cut in the laser cutting machine. Each individual worked on its own design in their preffered software. I worked on a simple quick design that represents a sphere using cuttle software.

When I was done with my design:

  • I exported the file as DXF

  • Import in RDWorks

  • I chose the material I was working on which is cardboard.

  • Download

  • I used the laser cutting machine to opne my folder

  • Chose the origin of the laser cutting

  • Start

Vinyl Cutter

We were introduced to the Vinyl Cutter machine. We learned how to set it up, how to use it, how it works, and how to create our own design.

We first downloaded CriCut Software and were told to choose whatever outlined photo from the internet while having the outline bold rather than thin lines. Having bold lines will help the machine print the picture chosen way better than having thin lines.

To start with:

  • I chose a photo from the internet and saved it

  • Import in CriCut software

  • Click on Single Layer

  • Click on Upload

  • I resized the picture based on my need

  • Click on Make

  • Click On Mat, then Continue

  • Choose the device, then Print
