Final Project¶
My partner and I came up with the idea of our project as we both are into wellness and mental health care. Our project is a multi-scent diffuser and each scent chosen effects your mood. The first scent that we chose is vanilla patchouli and patchouli which helps reduces stress and anxiety. The second scent we chose is eucalyptus as it can clear a person’s mind because of its minty scent. The third scent we chose is citrus as it increases alertness and reduces the feeling of fatigue. For the fourth scent, we made it as an optional scent for the user so they can put whatever scent they prefer.
For our project design we chose to go with a circular shape that consists of 2 layers; base and top layer. The base layer has all the electronics and the top layer has the liquid containers, humidifier module, dividers, LED lights and topped off with a smoked acrylic cover.
The exterior features 3D-printed elements, which provide a unique texture and visual interest to the device. The interior, on the other hand, employs plastic containers for each scent type, an acrylic divider to keep them separate, and a rim made from 3D printing for added structure. The top layer is designed with liquid containers, LED lights, and a humidifier module, all of which are carefully integrated into a smoked acrylic cover.
We designed our project in Fusion 360, starting by creating the exterior and top layers. The project is 15 cm long and 25 cm wide, with a circular acrylic top layer featuring four holes for scent release. Next, we worked in the interior, designing dividers and containers to keep each scent type separate and contained. To enable the humidifier module to access the top layer and liquid containers, we created holes in the bottom of the first layer connecting it to the base layer. Throughout the design process, I ensured that every component fit together seamlessly.
For the electronics part, we certainly used a breadboard and connected all the other wires to it. We also used Adafruit microcontroller, 4 relays and 4 output devices that controls the humidifier module. To start off, we chose that our project will be working via batteries so we used a male-to-male wire to connect between the breadboard and the microcontroller. We also used male to male wires to connect between the relay and the output devices to the Adafruit microcontroller.
For the programming part, we used python language and worked in MU editor. We programmed our project to have an on and off button in the BlueFruit Connect app. Not only that but also, we programmed the no. 1 button in the application to start diffusing the patchouli scent with the color purple. The no. 2 button to start the eucalyptus scent with the color green. The no.3 button to start the citrus scent with the yellow color and the last scent is optional so we added an amber scent with the color white.
