About me

                                  **HELLO EVERYBODY**

                                **Welcome to My Profile**

My name is Talal Mohammed Alkhulaqi. I am a chemical engineering student at the University of Bahrain. Below, I will show you my senior project, which was the main part of it fabricated at FabLab.

Senoir Project

The project was about carbon capture through a microreactor, the micrereactor was the main part. As shown in the figure, there is a cylinder containing a gas consisting of 90% N2 and 10% CO2. The cylinder is attached to a pressure regulator, which regulates the pressure. The gas will then move to the flowmeter to control the gas flow rate before entering the first inlet of the microreactor. On the other hand, there is a container containing the amine solution, which will absorb the CO2. The flow of amine will be controlled by a pump and directed to the second inlet of the microreactor. The microreactor is immersed in a water bath to control the temperature. The microreactor will be shown below.

The absorption phenomenon will happen inside the microreactor. The outlet connects to a separator to separate the rich amine (amine + CO2) from the lean gas (N2). The lean gas will then move to the CO2 sensor to measure the quantity of CO2. The data will be shown on the computer.

To fabricate the microreactor, my group and I used two acrylic sheets. One of them was for the holes (inlet and outlet) by using a laser cutting machine, while the other was for the channel of the reactor by using a CNC machine. Through this project, I discovered FabLab Academy, and I was amazed by everything it has to offer. That’s why I am here today.

My Participated on ChemE Car Competition

My story with FabLab is not yet finished. During my participation in the ChemE Car competition, FabLab provided us with invaluable support by allowing us to use their tools to design our car. Thanks to their assistance, we were able to secure the 2nd place in the competition.

This is the car

The open part of the car was designed to hold the reaction container, where the reaction between aluminum and NaOH solution took place to produce H2 and H2O. Additionally, the open part housed the fuel cell, which converted ions into electricity. On the other hand, the closed part of the car was dedicated to the sensor, which prevented light from affecting the sensor readings. The sensor was used to stop the car.
