This week we were introduced to 2D and 3D softwares.

2D Softwares

Inkscape

Inkscape is a free and opensource vector graphics editor; it can be used to create or edit vector graphics such as illustrations, diagrams, line arts, charts, logos and complex paintings, that can be imported and exported in various formats or as the main format (svg) file.

The discplay page in Inkscape is a 2D paper like view that can be resized according to the needs , and in it I sketched basic Bahrain skyline referring to an image that I found online.

The main tools I used were; rectangle tool, lines tool, which were sufficient to do basic linings of the skyline sketch.

Cuttle xyz

Cuttle is vector editor website, for designers to make their designs which can thus be printed to engraved or many other options. It also have parametric design features for easy designing and modifying processes. t is also have the

In cuttle, I started exploring the available design tools and went through with a circle and square. I used two basic shapes which it ended in a complex patter by using multiple modification tools like; “Transform Repeat”, “Boolean Union” and “Rotation”.

The following is the process and the final image: -

3D Softwares

Fusion

Fusion 360 is a computer aided design, computer aided manufacturing, computer aided engineering and printed circuit board design software application, developed by Autodesk.

In the Fablab class there was a wooden chair, and we were assigned to model the chair in Fusion 360.

Blender

Blender is a free and open source 3D modeling software. It creates 3D modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, even video editing and game creation, and the final work can be exported in various formats.

In Blender I modeled a small bedroom with furniture and rendered it. The main tools I used is the mesh tool; which it included mesh plane, mesh cube and mesh circle. Creating the model is in the object mood where the mesh are added and for further editing I move to edit mode which it allowed me to edit the vertices, faces and edges of each shape to modify it and turn it to the required model.

SketchFab

is a website that allows design to upload their and share it with others. It can importing various file types like DXF, OBJ and much more, the uploaded models to the website allows visitors to orbit the models, download the models and also alows the deign to share the model in other platforms.

I used SketchFab to share 3D models on my website, like the one illustrated on the left side of this page.
