5. 3D printing and scanning¶

This week I worked on 3D scanning and 3D designing and printing.

Group work¶

Group assignment was in two parts, the first one to learn about 3D printer and its prints, and we saw some samples. Then, we have to print something to learn how to do it by ourselves, check Hamad’s page to see how we did it.

Individual work¶

The individual assignment was to make design on my own, then try to print it.

3D printing¶

Try to create a pencil holder by using fusion360
New sketch
create –> cylinder
Make shell
create –> emboss
To multiply this shape just go to the pattern –> circular pattern
final step is just fillet the top of the cylinder

Using cura
First, we go with Prusa to do 3D printing but we encountered some problems, one of them is the filament may not be installed well so the machine is printing far from the base then to solve the problem we used the Makerbot.

3D scanning¶

in 3D scanning,I used two mobile apps. one of them is Qlone

What is Qlone?¶

Qlone is an all-in-one 3D scanner app. We have made it easy and fast to create 3D models from real objects, edit them with built-in editing tools and seamlessly export the result to popular platforms, 3D file formats and 3D printers. You can even animate your models in AR! it is available on both but the iOS version is much more advanced, with a new option to scan objects without the Qlone mat.

First, I downloaded the app from the apple store on my phone.
After downloading the app you will need to print a mat this mat is useful to detect direction of the object.
Object can be scanned without the mat.
