8. Moulding and casting¶
This week we worked on designing a mould, casting it and moulding it. Let’s go through this journey
Group Assignment¶

What is Molding and casting?¶
The main difference between molding and casting is the use of the material in the process. Casting will typically involve metal, while molding focuses on plastics. In both cases, the melted material goes into a die or mold to create the final form.
Individual Assignment¶
I have design an object to create a mould and caste it. I used TinkerCad to design my object:
It is clear that my design has a space between the butterfly and the base, and a small gap between the wings. While the machine is too big and unable to do those gap as well as it won’t fill the space between the object and the base.
Milling¶
For casting the machine used is 888888 and software 555
Moulding and casting¶
For moulding we have used bioplastic my colleagues been testing check their website to know more about their trials and the ingredients used to make this bioplastic Hussian’s Page
It took one day to solidify
Error : The space between the wall and the objects was too small which it caused a small damage in the mould. But I thought it won’t affect the shape.¶
For the second trial we tried to use ComposiMold-LT instead of the bioplastic, to examine if it won’t break
As it shown above the mould with this material did not break, but I think the bioplastic was harder and less sticky than the ComposiMold-LT. Which it makes better to me.
I have used resin to make the shape and added some color to it
