This entry will document how I recycled the collected plastic bottle caps to make new products.
The reason behind creating new products from used plastic is to reduce plastic pollution while reducing the demand for virgin plastic and encouraging a circular economy.
The following steps were carried out to melt and shape the plastic bottle caps:
1. All the bottle caps were first washed.
2. A regular grill press machine lined with baking paper was first heated.
3. Bottle caps were placed and heated until they melted.
4. After melting they were pressed between two solid bricks to form a flat sheet.
5. Once cooled the sheet was filed and cut if required using regular tools such as cutting saw or drilling machine.
